SHIPPER OWNED CONTAINER (SOC):
Also known as SOC, the term shipper owned container implies that a cargo container is owned by a consignee. A great advantage of this mode of transport is the lack of detention or per diem charge and demurrage payments, which are fees for the prolonged use of the container. It is important to note that carriers charge additional fees to ship an SOC container.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I BUY A 'SHIPPER OWNED CONTAINER'?
“Shipper Owned Containers” (SOC). To use an SOC to import or export cargo, the container must be certified as sea/cargo worthy. After this, a survey of the container will be conducted, and a new CSC plate will be installed on it, which attests that the container is sea/cargo worthy. At this time, a certificate of seaworthiness will also be issued.
